About Mark

Mark Campbell grew up in the mountains of Wanyesboro and moved to Richmond in the late ‘70s.

He describes how the James River’s health has greatly improved over the decades, and the many connections he has held with the James throughout his life, first as a boy scout, then as an architect, musician, and landscape painter. Mark also regales us with tales about the role of the batteau boat across the James’ long history, and how this has influenced his own music.
