Story prompt: Write your own story!

when springtime comes to Richmond we wake up
like early morning birds
binoculars and coffee in hand we set out
in anticipation
of a misty morning river with new life teeming

the herons have returned to their rookery
we spot them fishing in the rapids
flying
languidly upriver
landing somewhat clumsily in treetops
10, 20 after 40 we lose count

oh, generous day and the river that made it so
may I remain ever in awe of you
and the wildness in me that you bring out
bird by great blue bird
