Story prompt: Write your own river story…
Since I went canoeing, the river has been flowing through my artwork.
I am not a “water person.” My knuckles were white as I clung on at the front of the canoe, leaving all the navigation to my experienced friend. But, as I looked through the clear water at the dappled, ancient rocks sliding by under us, I relaxed.
We saw gar, a heron, an osprey. But it was the rocks that held me – slabs and circles, shaped by water for so long. I got brave and started paddling. I steered through tiny rapids. I felt, “I am one with the river!”
This painting is from my River Bed series.
